The Parker Blog:

A Foundation for Success: An Interview with Ann Parker

Though she’s a busy bee in the middle of benefits season, we were able to carve out a few minutes with Ann Parker, a Parker Staffing contractor, who is currently working with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as an HR Coordinator. She talks to us about what she loves most about working with The Gates Foundation, just a stone’s throw away from Downtown Seattle, and how she discovered Parker Staffing Services in the first place. We hope that by having her share her experiences working as an HR Coordinator, it gives other HR Admins and HR Coordinators inspiration as they continue to move forward in their careers.

// Hi Ann! Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us! Let’s start with talking a bit about what you do with The Gates Foundation. What is your favorite thing about your current role?

Supporting Mobility & Benefits at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, I am getting exposure to several critical HR areas, and am empowered to be the point person on key programs such as leaves of absence management and front line employee benefits Q&A and assistance.

// That’s great! What has been your most positive experience as a Parker contractor?

In general, my colleagues at the client site (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) really makes me feel like an important part of the team.  I work alongside incredibly capable and talented individuals and am always included, supported and enabled to make the greatest positive impact.

// It’s always great to feel supported, not to mention, making a positive impact across the world! Now, looking back, what made you decide to work with Parker and/or how did you discover Parker as a resource?

I was referred by a friend who was also working with a Parker recruiter, and the opportunity at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was fantastic and a natural fit.

// Awesome! We love to hear about friend referrals for some of open jobs in the Seattle area – especially for clients as amazing as Gates. Looking ahead now, what are your long term career goals?

I would look forward to running relocation and/ or benefits vendor management programs for multinational organizations.

// Seems like this role with Gates is getting you the experience you need to succeed with those goals. What is something about yourself that a potential employer would want to know about?

I speak fluent French and am highly adaptable.

// Très bien! Now, for fun, let’s have a little lightning round!

Do you prefer the Seahawks or the Sounders? Sounders

Cabin or Cabana? Cabin

Do you drink Coffee or Tea more? Tea

Which do you like better: Books or Movies? Movies

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Ann! We wish you good luck as you continue your HR Coordinator assignment with The Gates Foundation!

You’re in
good company.
