The Parker Blog:

Turning Donations into Shoes: Help Seattle’s Homeless this Holiday Season

Parker is Collecting Shoe Tags for Mary's Place this holiday season

Recently, a report was shared that stated that nearly 3,000 students in Seattle Public Schools are homeless. That’s 3,000 students (and their families) that cannot find stable housing and are sometimes forced to endure poor weather conditions, as Seattle shelters are currently at 90 percent occupancy.

When our colleagues heard about these statistics, they were moved to take action. Our staffing team decided to give back to an organization right around the corner from Parker’s HQ: Mary’s Place. You can help us!

Mary’s Place is an organization dedicated to empowering Seattle’s homeless women, children, and families to reclaim their lives. You may have heard of Mary’s Place, as their No Child Sleeps Outside initiative is in its second year, backed by well-known local organizations like Expedia and the Seattle Seahawks Women’s Association. Even Seahawks kicker, Steven Hauschka, is supporting this initiative with his Celebrity Ping Pong Tournament.

The Holly Jolly Holiday Party

Each year, Mary’s Place also hosts their Holly Jolly Holiday Party, providing Seattle’s homeless community a place to come in and be warm, eat a nice meal, and celebrate the holiday season. In addition to sponsoring the meal, many of Parker’s employees will be volunteering – from helping children find the perfect gift for their parents in their Santa Store, to elf-ing around with Santa Clause himself!

At the holiday party, each guest will be given a gift card, redeemable for a brand new pair of shoes. This initiative is something that our colleagues wanted to take part in – and are inviting every client, contractor, and friend of Parker to participate in as well. On our tree, we have $20 shoe tags, each representing a pair of new shoes. So far, we’ve fulfilled over 70 of our 100 shoe tags, but we’d like to reach 100 by the December 16th deadline. With your help, we can fulfill our goal!

If you’d like to participate and help us reach our shoe tag goal or are interested in volunteering with us at the Holly Jolly Holiday Party, give us a call at (206) 447-9447 or contact your Parker Recruiter or Business Development Manager.

You’re in
good company.
